New road signs for EV charging stations
4 December 2021
New road signs will show us the parking spaces for charging electric vehicles! From 2 December 2021, the provisions of the Regulation of the Ministers of Infrastructure and Interior and Administration of 12 October 2021 amending the regulation on road signs and signals came into force.
Road signs for EV charging infrastructure
The regulation provides for the introduction of two new road signs relating to electric vehicle charging infrastructure:
D-23b - sign informing that a gas station is equipped with a charging point for electric vehicles
D-23c - sign indicating a charging point for electric vehicles
The regulation also unifies the practice on the market and states that under the D-18 sign, i.e. a sign indicating a place designated for parking vehicles, D-18a sign, i.e. a sign indicating a place designated for parking by an authorized person, and D-18b sign, indicating a place designated for parking vehicles located in a building or under a shelter, it is allowed to use a label with the inscription:
EV - indicating that the place is intended for parking electric vehicles and
EV charging - indicating that the place is intended for parking of electric vehicles only for the time of charging
This will replace the existing "EE" signs (from "electric energy") informing users about parking spaces designated for electric vehicles. From now on the sign "EV" (from "electric vehicle") will be used, which much better reflects the nomenclature commonly used around the world.
The new regulations are aimed primarily at promoting zero-emission transport and raising environmental awareness of Polish road drivers. The Regulation is a result of an initiative undertaken by the Polish Alternative Fuels Association, which is aimed at working out legal changes facilitating the development of the electromobility sector in Poland.
